Open Letter to customers, staff and friends of SMH:

From the beginning of news about the terrible destruction faced by the Gulf Coast, SMH and many of its staff have been involved in effort to alleviate the damage and setbacks suffered by those in the path of Hurricane Katrina. Our Employee Fund led the way with a contribution to the American Red Cross. Several employees made additional individual contributions which nearly tripled the initial Employee Fund donation. Independent of that effort, several employees contributed directly to the humanitarian aid effort through the many charities collecting needed supplies here in the Kansas City area. Additionally, family members of some of our employees volunteered or were called into duty to travel to the damaged areas to provide service through the National Guard or volunteer organizations.

SMH was on the phone with our many customers in the region and checked on the safety of our friends and determined what we could do to ship parts where they were needed. We have worked with our staff to ensure that special considerations are being made for extended credit terms when needed and other direct assistance. SMH has teamed with TVH to contribute funds directly to companies that have suffered direct damage to their facilities.

We have been gratified by the many positive stories and examples that have come out of people helping people face the adversity that Katrina has caused for so many. We thank our staff for being both generous and caring. We always acknowledge that it is our people that make us a strong company and we again have proof as to how true that sentiment is today.

While we know that the struggle is not over for many in the Gulf Coast region, we stand ready to continue to help as may be needed. We hope for a speedy and strong recovery.
